Chronological History

1976

In January and February there were severe storms in the County, that brought down trees, fences and floods.

The Venture Scout Leaders thought that with 16-20 year old Venture Scout there was a resource that could be used to assist, if only we had a list of names and phone numbers to get hold of people.

Initial discussions took place with the Emergency Services and a meeting was held with Inspector Watts from the Police and Mervyn Draper, Ian West, and Ross Thompson. It was clear that the services wanted a team trained to a standard that they could rely on.

Training started in September with I think our initial talk from Harry Tate at the Mounts Fire Station.
Training continued with St. Johns, Ambulance Service, Police and Fire Service through the winter.

The Team purchased a Transit van and racked out the back to carry equipment. Working at the Council I held that the old Civil Defence centre was being cleared out. In good Scouting tradition the centre was cleared of equipment the next day with the assistance of Moulton Scout Group's minibus.
